An innovative mechanical startup rethinking how we sit.
BAID combines mechanical engineering, industrial and product design, biomechanics, ergonomics, research and innovation in a single early-stage project.
About us
We are a small team building a mechanical answer to an everyday problem: sitting has become static.
Our work sits at the intersection of several disciplines. Mechanical engineering defines what the device can physically do. Industrial and product design decides how it disappears into everyday furniture. Biomechanics and ergonomics inform what a meaningful change in seated position actually is. Research keeps the whole project honest.

Founding story
It began as an Industrial Design student startup.
BAID began with a simple observation: sitting is becoming an increasingly static part of everyday life.
From early sketches, the project evolved through research, design exploration, biomechanical simulation and product development.
Support through Ford’s Smart Mobility Accelerator Programme helped create the opportunity to develop the project further.

Mission
To rethink how people sit by introducing movement and variation into an activity that has traditionally been static.
Vision
A future where the chairs around us better accommodate the way human bodies move.
Values
Curiosity
Question assumptions and explore new possibilities.
Engineering
Turn ideas into real, testable systems.
Evidence
Research, simulate, test and learn.
Human-centred design
Design around real human behaviour.
Ambition
Challenge everyday problems with better ideas.
Development journey
From idea to product development.
01
Student project
BAID started as an Industrial Design student startup, built around a single observation about everyday sitting.
02
Research
Literature research into prolonged sitting, postural variation and dynamic seating shaped the direction of the concept.
03
Ford acceleration support
BAID is supported by Ford through the Ford Smart Mobility Accelerator Programme.
04
Biomechanical simulations
Musculoskeletal simulation work using OpenSim to study how seated inclination changes affect the body.
05
Intellectual property
The BAID concept is protected through a utility model.
06
Product development
Mechanical design, prototyping and iteration of the chair-leg device architecture.
07
Validation
Ongoing testing to evaluate the system and refine the concept.
08
Bright future
Looking ahead to a society where everyday sitting moves with the body — and back pain is no longer an accepted part of working life.
