Rethinking the relationship between people and chairs.
BAID is a mechanical system placed at the base of the chair leg. Four coordinated devices vary in height to create small, periodic inclinations of the seat.

01 — What it is
A mechanical system designed to introduce periodic changes in seated inclination.
Each BAID unit is a compact mechanical device that sits at the bottom of a chair leg. It is not a chair, and it is not a cushion: it is an actuating base that changes the geometry of the seat the user is already sitting on.
Because the system works at the chair leg rather than at the seat surface, the interface with the user stays untouched. The chair keeps its own form, materials and adjustment; BAID adds a dimension the chair did not previously have — slow, controlled variation over time.
The intent is deliberately restrained. Inclinations are small enough not to interrupt work, and slow enough that the user is not asked to react. The change is something the body accommodates rather than something the mind manages.
02 — How it works
Four devices, working as one.
A set of four devices — one per chair leg — vary their height in coordination. By raising some units and lowering others, the seat plane tilts by a small, controlled amount in a chosen direction. Cycling those combinations over time produces continuous postural variation without the user having to do anything.

03 — Why it is different
Variation instead of support.
Conventional ergonomic approaches often focus on supporting the body in a particular position.
BAID explores a different approach: introducing variation into the seated position itself.
04 — Current development
Early-stage, and honest about it.
BAID is an early-stage product-development project. We are currently moving through research, biomechanical simulation, prototyping and validation. The product is not commercially available.
The concept is protected through a utility model, and the project is supported by Ford through the Ford Smart Mobility Accelerator Programme.
