Why we simulate before we build

9 January 2026 · 4 min read

Prototypes are expensive in time. Simulation is cheaper, and it forces precision: you cannot simulate an idea you have not fully specified.

Using OpenSim, we model how changes in seated inclination alter the loading and engagement of the muscles involved in maintaining a seated posture. The output is not a conclusion about health outcomes. It is a way to compare design parameters against each other — inclination magnitude, timing and direction.

That comparison shapes the mechanical requirements for the device: travel range, actuation speed and the coordination behaviour between the four units.
